Bringing a baby or new child into your family is always a very special time. Why not mark the occasion with a special naming ceremony, bringing all your friends and family together to celebrate the new addition to your family.
This is a ceremony to introduce your baby or child to friends and family. You can host your naming day in your home, in an outdoor setting, or at a local venue – no matter the location it is an informal but emotional occasion.
You can have godparents, guideparents, fairy godparents, or co-parents – whatever you like to call them. I can suggest poems, music, readings or rituals, such as jars of wishes or boxes of adventures, and will work with you to create the perfect naming day for you and your family.
There are many different ways you can enhance your naming ceremony, to make it more personal. Here are just some examples of activites you could include to make the day extra special.
A jar is passed around or available for everyone to access and little cards with pens/pencils on hand for people to write their wishes for the child as it grows.
Similar to the above, but the guests are asked to write the adventures they’d like the child to have through its life. Little personalised boxes with the child’s name and date of naming day can be opened by the parents on the anniversary of the day each year and the wish/adventure carried out.
Similar to the ceremony for marriage, each child/family member has the opportunity to pour a different coloured sand into a vessel which can be then sealed to signify the blending or the family or the union of the new child into the family.
Blowing bubbles at the end of the ceremony is an eco-friendly alternative to a balloon release. Planting a tree or burying/sealing a time capsule are other ideas.
